Gary Merrill
Gary Merrill has over thirty years of professional experience in the field of organization and executive development, working with senior leaders across a variety of business and public sector organizations. He is the founder and principal consultant of Emergent Systems, a Santa Cruz based consulting firm dedicated to creating more viable, vital and sustainable organizations and communities.
His primary areas of focus include organization strategy development, change management, career planning, and executive coaching. His passion is creating a context for “conversations that matter” – convening groups who are engaged in common issues but don't usually work together, in conversations they've never had, creating a shared vision of a future they all want to see happen, and aligning around the actions that create real value for the organizations and for society. Gary is also skilled in the use of computer decision support tools and has facilitated interactive strategic planning sessions, stakeholder engagement and team development meetings both face to face and virtually.
Prior to starting Emergent Systems, Gary was a senior consultant with Catalyst Consulting Team, a national organization and leadership development firm.
Gary was co-founder and Senior Vice President for DBM Training & Consulting Company, a subsidiary of Drake Beam Morin, Inc., one of the world’s leading human resources consulting firms. In that role he was responsible for the development and implementation of consulting and executive education services throughout the United States and Europe.
Gary has also held senior internal consulting and human resource positions at Lockheed Missiles and Space Co. where he was a founding member of the Organizational Effectiveness Team and the LMSC University.
